MiPlaza joins FASILIS Network (Mar 2010)

MiPlaza participates in euroPIC (Jan 2010)
MiPlaza is one of the founder partners who have formed the EuroPIC consortium, which aims to facilitate access by small companies to cost-effective Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) manufacture in Europe.
EuroPIC’s goal is to effect a fundamental change in the way applications based on photonic integrated circuits are designed and manufactured in Europe.

ASM, MiPlaza and Holst Centre join in ALD for MEMS applications (June 2009)
ASM, Holst Centre and MiPlaza present a newly installed atomic-layer deposition (ALD) tool that will support the activities on ultra-low power sensors and other MEMS applications. It is the centerpiece of a joint development project that can open new application domains for ALD.

MiPlaza RF on-wafer measurements in NXP project (June 2009)
Results of a joint project between MiPlaza's Electronic Measurement Lab and NXP's IC Lab are highlighted in the Newsletter of DSP Valley, the technology network organization for design of digital signal processing systems. The project investigated automated high frequency on-wafer measurements to characterize a wideband preamplifier designed by NXP, and demonstrated how MiPlaza's automated setup shortens throughput time. MiPlaza participates in EUMINAfab (May 2009)
MiPlaza recently took part in the kick-off meeting of EUMINAfab, the new European Research Infrastructure consortium. EUMINAfab is dedicated towards opening up so-called "transnational access" to the multimaterial micro- and nano-fabrication and characterisation capabilities of the infrastructures made available by its 10 partners, including MiPlaza. This integrating activity will establish a unique technology platform that is open to external users from industry and academia alike. Access is granted to users based on scientific merit. Within the next few months the EUMINAfab consortium will develop its business processes and will launch the first call for proposals. More details on EUMINAfab.
New plasma etching system (March 2009)
As part of its ongoing investment program, MiPlaza has recently installed a new plasma etching system from STS (Surface Technology Systems). The CPX cluster tool has multiple process chambers capable of etching a wide range of materials including silicon, dielectrics, metals and polymers. STS and MiPlaza have also agreed to cooperate together on further process development on the equipment installed.

The range of MiPlaza's materials analysis capabilities have now been further extended by additional services in mechanical testing and materialography by optical microscopy. Read more in our new Technical Notes.

Semicon Europe: MiPlaza displays SCIL, (October 2008)
MiPlaza's range of services were successfully put on display at the Semicon Europe show in Stuttgart, with particular focus on expertise in Device Technologies, including the new breakthough technology SCIL (Substrate Conformal Imprint Lithography). This new technology has been developed by Philips Research and transferred to SUSS MicroTec in a technology license agreement, as a commercially available product.

MiPlaza Materials Analysis have introduced three new publications: 'UV absorbing dopes in quartz' (Applications Note), "Materials for optical pickup lenses" (Applications Note), and "Permeability of polymer sheet materials" (Technical Note). Read more here.

New Eindhoven Design shows MiPlaza 'Nanochair' at International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) New York, (May 2008)
Amongst the exhibitors at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York are the group New Eindhoven Design (NED). Included in the items on display at the NED booth is an image of a 'Nanochair' just a few microns in width, taking 'furniture' into the world of nanotechnology. The Nanochair was created at the MiPlaza Materials Analysis facility.

MiPlaza SEM photosat Museum of Modern Art New York (Feb 2008)
The relationship between science, design and art - those are themes behind the "Design and the Elastic Mind" Exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, opening 24 February 2008. Included in the exhibition will be four SEM (scanning electron microscopy) images created by Frans Holthuysen, electron microscopist in MiPlaza's Thin Film Facilities, using the Nova NanoSEM 600 from FEI Company. Apart from his research role, Frans pursues his hobby of "SEM art", and has won a number of prizes for artistic merit. Read Eindhoven Dagblad article (PDF, in Dutch).

MiPlaza would like to congratulate fluXXion B.V. on winning the World Economic Forum Technology Pioneers Award 2008, nominated by the world’s leading technology experts, including venture capitalists, technology companies, academics and media. FluXXion’s unique microsieve filtration technology, based on semiconductor technology, is applied to liquid and gas filtration, with applications ranging from laboratory-scale analytical procedures to fine and sterile filtration of large production flows. MiPlaza wins Ir Noordhof prize for technical expertise (Nov 2007)
In the Ir Noordhof Prize 2007 competition, MiPlaza were selected with two nominees: Tiny den Dekker, Device Technologies, and Paul van den Broek, Electronic Prototyping. The presence of two nominees from MiPlaza reflects the breadth of our technical expertise. MiPlaza is delighted that out of 30 nominees, Tiny den Dekker won the prize in his category. This event is organized annually by the Dutch Stichting Bevordering Vakmanschap (SBV), which promotes technical expertise in the region.
MEMS Memunity Workshop (Oct 2007)
The MiPlaza Reliability Center participated in the MEMS Memunity Workshop at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven. The workshop was organized by MEMUNITY, an open community of companies and industries operating in the field of microsystems technology. See flyer for details.
MiPlaza Device Characterization and Simulation Workshop (Oct 2007)
Device characterization and modeling is a difficult task and generally includes the interaction of different expertise, resources and instruments. Organized by MiPlaza, Agilent Technologies and Cascade Microtech, this workshop reviewed the new trends and technologies in component characterization and the necessary tools and techniques, with live demonstrations in the MiPlaza Electronic Measurement Laboratory. Topics covered included probing techniques, new algorithm simulation and large signal network analyzer technologies for active components. Abstracts of the presentations are given in flyer.


Contact NL Open Innovation (Oct 2007)
At this year’s Contact NL event on the High Tech Campus Eindhoven, MiPlaza's Device Technologies group delivered a presentation on 'MiPlaza-enabled innovation in Nanotechnology and Microsystems'. MiPlaza also participated at the exhibition.

MiPlaza at National Instruments LabVIEW Day
National Instruments and MiPlaza's Test & Measurement Automation group recently organized an Advanced User Group meeting, as part of National Instruments’ LabVIEW Day at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven. MiPlaza gave a presentation over the challenges and solutions relating to the use of existing drivers and algorithms, with reference to data types, memory management, structure alignment and function callback construction.
Microsystem Technology Seminar (Sep 2007)
MiPlaza's Thin Film Facilities participated in this MST Special Interest Group seminar, organised by Mikrocentrum, with a presentation on the shift from micro-mechanical to micro-lithographic processes in MST, and the opportunities for industry.

Attended by managers and project-leaders working in advanced wireless product design and development, this event comprised presentations and live demonstrations of optimized solutions for the challenges faced at different stages in the design process, including a demonstration of MiPlaza's Electronic Measurement Laboratory.
MiPlaza / ASML partnership helps companies accelerate innovation(July 2007)
The ASML customer magazine “Images” has highlighted MiPlaza's partnership with ASML, providing shared use of ASML’s lithography stepper in the MiPlaza clean rooms, for microsystems and nanotechnology research. One such user is Cytocentrics. “The MiPlaza facilities and the ASML stepper provide a production-like environment that helps us get to market faster. That gives us a competitive advantage and offers big benefits for our customers” says Peter van Stiphout, Director of Cytocentrics BV. In addition, as part of the MiPlaza Value Network, a recent MiPlaza/ASML workshop brought together the various companies/institutes using the stepper, providing a forum for exchanging information and discussing future challenges.

New 14 Tesla NMR system (July 2007)
MiPlaza Materials Analysis has recently expanded its analytical capabilities in the life sciences and healthcare research field, with the installation of a state-of-the art 14 Tesla NMR system. This will help provide essential information on the chemical and biological structure of new compounds, for example in the development of new MRI contrast agents.
New Cryo-TEM for Materials Analysis (June 2007)
MiPlaza Materials Analysis is now equipped with cryo-TEM facilities, to support life science research activities. A dedicated preparation tool is used to prepare 100 nm thick frozen water layers and a cryo holder enables TEM studies of these samples at –180 deg C. This allows for studies of the natural shape and ordering of organic structures suspended in water.
New Electronic Components Warehouse (June 2007)
MiPlaza has introduced a completely renovated Electronic Components Warehouse, with fast delivery time and dedicated advice to customers. The Warehouse is open to all residents of the High Tech Campus Eindhoven. Customers can go shopping in the Warehouse themselves. Every customer or department receives a barcode that registers the purchases, and charges the department accordingly.
Minister of Economic Affairs visits MiPlaza (May 2007)
Small and medium enterprises (SME's) in the microelectronics field were in the spotlight recently during a visit to Eindhoven by a delegation led by the Netherlands' Minister of Economic Affairs, Ms Maria van der Hoeven. The visit was organized by Point-One, the Dutch innovation initiative joining Dutch high-tech companies, knowledge institutes and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, focusing on nanoelectronics and embedded systems.

Visit to MiPlaza Materials Analysis by Fysica group (April 2007)
Members of the Dutch Physics Society (Nederlandse Natuurkundige Vereniging) recently visited MiPlaza's Materials Analysis laboratories during the annual Fysica Congress in Eindhoven. The program presented an overview of our activities in the fields of chemical, molecular/structural and surface/thin film analysis, followed by particular demonstrations of our capabilities in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM).
